The island was called Ventosa Island in 1869 by Commander Meade, U.S. Navy (USN); the Tlingit Indian name was said to be Gla-huts (1883 Coast Pilot, p. 167). Aurel and Arthur Krause (1883, map), however, reported the name as Jacklanissa." |
